What is the best wedding gown garment bag to travel with?

By

I’m traveling by plane with my wedding gown and want to carry it on. What is the best garment bag for this?
I wasn’t given a garment bag from the salon in which I purchased the dress.

I took my wedding dress as a carry on to my wedding three weeks ago. I got a garment bag from the store. Any airline will take the dress and hang it up with the crew’s things (unless it’s a small airplane, then they have to fold it in half and hang it) – just tell them you have a wedding dress and they’re more than happy to hang it up for you. icon smile What is the best wedding gown garment bag to travel with?

The bag that should have come with it from the bridal salon and the box it came in when it was shipped to the salon. Ask your bridal salon for extra tips as well.

I’d go with a plastic bag on the dress, then probably a canvas bag over that.

Unless you’re purchasing a seat for your dress, or unless your dress is very slim and light, I don’t know that you truly want to carry on your wedding dress. The flight attendant is going to require you, for safety’s sake, to stow your dress in an overhead compartment where it’s going to be crammed in with suitcases, laptops and briefcases.

Have you ever watched a flight attendant slam those overhead bins shut! The amount of force she has to use sometimes to shut those stuffed bins isn’t going to affect your dress in a good way.

You might want to look into shipping your wedding dress to your hotel ahead of time.

EDIT: @Cetery–I didn’t say they didn’t "allow" wedding dresses as a carry on item. I SAID any dress you carry on will be subject to being horribly crushed in the overhead bin. You aren’t allowed to HOLD any carry on luggage in your lap as it can become a projectile in an emergency.

I am doing the exact same thing and I got a garment bag from the shop. I am taking it on as carry on, and they do allow that.

I suggest you ask one when you go back in for your final fitting :-)

*edit* actually, they do allow wedding dresses, you just have to mention it and then they put it away somewhere safe. At least that’s what they told me.
Best call your airline and double check?

    *edit*

ok, why am I getting thumbs down? If my information is incorrect, please tell me, as I am flying with my wedding dress as well, and would love to know.
