What are good schools for wedding and event planning?
Posted by: | CommentsI am looking into schools online for wedding planning, but can’t find a degree program anywhere. Does anyone know of good schools for this type of degree? Thank you!
Most online schools that offer courses in event planning and wedding planning are certificate courses, not degree programs. If you are interested in a degree program, which is what i would recommend, I would suggest to look into business and restaurant and hotel management. Most wedding planners are in business for themselves and do not make any money for the first few years while building up clientele. Starting your own business requires a lot of work and money. With a degree in restaurant and hotel management and business you will get the skills necessary to run events, then can work in the hotel/restaurant industry and gain experience while building your business on the side if that is what you want.
Some colleges do have courses in corporate event planning, which you may be able to take as part of a business degree.
Good luck!

How do I advertise my new wedding planning company?
Posted by: | CommentsI just started a wedding planning company and I wanted some fresh ideas on where to advertise and market my services.
Since you are just starting out, you will probably have limited resources with which to promote your company. So you will want to use them as efficiently as possible.
1. Target your advertising. Don’t try to reach EVERYONE on the planet. Instead try to think of WHO your customers are and try to reach them on the basis of where they live, shop and think. Instead of using radio or newspaper ads, think of using the local Bridal Guide or a local bridal publication. The readership will be much more targeted to the customers you want to reach. If you DO use newspaper, make sure you target WHERE the ad is located. For example, you might want to run your ad on the Wedding Announcement page versus the sports section.
2. See if there are companies or businesses that will allow you to partner with them. For example, will the local florist or wedding cake baker allow you to distribute brochures or post flyers or business cards in their shop? In return, you could offer them referrals.
3. Go where the brides-to-be go.
Are there upcoming wedding shows or other related events that you could participate in? If you don’t have a booth, can you advertise in the Wedding Show Guide?
4. Build a website.
The other person gave you a great idea, here. It’s one thing to pass along brochures or business cards, but a website can make you look all the more professional and allow you to customize your message based on time time of the year, etc. You can even customize your message to tie in with upcoming wedding shows and the like. A website can grow as your business grows. For example, perhaps today it’s just a list of services. By the end of the summer, you could have a page that features testimonials from happy clients.
Good luck with your business. If you run into any girls who want to get married, feel free to pass along my name.
